How It Works

Dowel diameter should be no more than half the stock thickness to maintain strength. Common dowel sizes are 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2". Fluted or spiral-grooved dowels allow glue to distribute better than smooth dowels. Use a dowel jig or doweling center points for accurate alignment. Space dowels 4-6 inches apart for edge joints.
